Romney v Obama: One Does Not Simply Put Women In Binders

Mitt Romney, you cray cray. I kinda want him to win the Presidency now. If the past two weeks are anything to go by, the man has a meme-to-speech ratio higher than George Dubbya Bush.

That’d be something to make it almost worth giving Big Bird the axe. The man is a meme machine bigger than Clint Eastwood talking to an empty chair.

If you’re not sure what I’m on about yet, it’s Mitt Romney’s “Binders Full Of Women” line, spoken with enthusiastic, silver-tongued, well veiled, male supremacy, and within minutes, an Internet approved, stamped, viral hit. And in case it really has to be stated, yes, I do support 100% equal rights in the workforce. Not necessarily 50-50 equal representation in every job, though. For instance, if you have 100 super-qualified men all out of work all gunning for the same job, you’re not going to knock them back and say “nope, I’m only going to hire women to get my numbers up”.

That’s kinda sexist.

And I have to wonder, based on the below excerpt, whether ol’ Rom-Rom sincerely outed a sexism problem rife within his own party or whether he actually practiced sexism by knocking back perfectly qualified men in favour of women who had already been knocked back.

Either way, it’s a bad sign when you think about it.

There’s no clarification, so one can only speculate. He is a dirty politician like all politicians after all. The rose has teeth in the mouth of a beast.

Here is the original transcript of the excerpt of the speech, from the second Presidential Debate which was, fortunately, not hosted again by that old guy with the dead, dead eyes who scares me.

MR. ROMNEY: Thank you. And — important topic and one which I learned a great deal about, particularly as I was serving as governor of my state, because I had the — the chance to pull together a Cabinet and all the applicants seemed to be men. And I — and I went to my staff, and I said, how come all the people for these jobs are — are all men?

They said, well, these are the people that have the qualifications. And I said, well, gosh, can’t we — can’t we find some — some women that are also qualified?

And — and so we — we took a concerted effort to go out and find women who had backgrounds that could be qualified to become members of our cabinet. I went to a number of women’s groups and said, can you help us find folks? And I brought us whole binders full of — of women.

God, talk about pandering to the women vote. A job well done, indeed. Besides being a pretty good looking presidential candidate, how many women want to fuck Romney now? Can I get a show of hands binders?

Yet, despite the obvious political stunt bullshit, it’s made way for a hilariously paved pathway of binder jokes at Mitt’s expense – or perhaps, to Mitt’s delight.

A Facebook page dedicated to the awkward phrase attracted almost 350,000 “likes” within two days of the debate between Romney and Democratic President Barack Obama on Tuesday night.

Mock Twitter accounts were created while the candidates were still on stage. One, @RomneyBinders, had nearly 34,000 followers. A Tumblr blog collected dozens of “binder” slogans and images within a few hours – and was still growing.

Some of the Internet memes – “Keep Calm and Put Women in Binders,” a picture of a white binder with a “Women for Obama” image, and a photo of Romney that reads “Some of my best friends are binders full of women” – were more obvious than others.

Amazon.com’s product reviews for two- and three-ring binders were flooded with snarky comments – and thousands more indications that visitors found the faux reviews “helpful.”

“This binder is 28 percent cheaper than the Male version, and works a lot better!” wrote “M.R,” referring to pay equity for women, the issue that prompted Romney’s comment. Studies show that American women earn 77 cents per dollar paid to men.

Let’s consider Obama for a second. His critics like to highlight the very little that he has achieved for the USA in his four years in power. Basically the whole nation is a huuuuge step backwards towards Fuckedville since the man was elected.

But why stop at that… besides some “Song-ify-ing” and some “Bad Lip Reads”, what about the very little he has achieved for Internet hilarity in the last four years?

Frankly, I’m kinda over America having a competent President who churns his every word through the PR factory ten times before it’s carefully uttered. It’s fucking boring, and nobody pays attention to politics when it’s boring. (Nobody knows that better than Australians, trust me.)

Bring back the caricature Presidents who we can all laugh at and shake our heads at their idiocy — basically, Republicans. The party who spends too much time perfecting their never-wavering grins for national TV but whose candidates ramble off the record so much it gives their PR department grey hairs and nightmares. If Romney gets the Presidency we’ll have binders full of memes.

Remember: Bush might have financially fucked every last hope Obama had for ever doing anything to actually grow America for the next ten years, but hey, at least he generated thousands of hilarious YouTube clips providing many a LOL.

How can you hate a President like that?
